Introduction

In a world that’s designed for the sighted, reading for the visually impaired can be a labyrinth of challenges for the partially blind. But what if there was a key to unlock a clearer lens?  Meet ‘Visioreads’, bringing books to life, one touch at a time. Visioreads, a revolutionary app that’s opening eyes with technology. Designed with the needs of the visually challenged at its core, ‘Visioreads’ is not just an app, it is a companion that speaks the language of sound.

Problem Statement

Globally, millions of visually impaired individuals struggle to access printed materials. The reliance on Braille limits their reading options, as not all books are available in this format. This scarcity of accessible literature restricts education, personal growth, and enjoyment. There is a critical need for a solution that allows the blind to read any book they choose, without the limitations of Braille.

Solution: Visio Reads

Visio Reads is an app that empowers visually impaired individuals by transforming the way they access books. Using advanced optical character recognition (OCR) and text-to-speech (TTS) technology, the app scans printed pages and instantly converts the text into high-quality audio. This provides a seamless and intuitive reading experience, breaking down the barriers posed by traditional printed materials.

The Prototype

Unique Features

Visioreads is a simple and intuitive interface designed for the visually impaired. It’s capability to scan and convert any printed text into audio makes it versatile. It has customizable options for different voices, reading speeds, and languages to cater to individual preferences. Visioreads is accessible on smartphones and tablets, allowing users to read anywhere, anytime.

Development Process

From conceptualizing the idea to developing the app, the team followed a structured process:

Empathy and Research: Understanding the needs and challenges faced by visually impaired individuals through interviews and focus groups.

Design and Prototyping: Creating user-friendly interfaces and testing initial prototypes with target users.

Technology Integration: Implementing OCR and TTS technologies to ensure accurate and natural-sounding audio.

Field Testing: Collaborating with visually impaired users to refine the app based on their feedback and experiences.
